James Dennis Lierly, 61, Lenexa, Kan., went to be with the Lord Tuesday, February 5, 2013. He passed away at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. James was born June 29, 1951, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of John and Marjorie Lierly. He was preceded by his father, John, his paternal grandparents, Dennis and Alice Lierly of Gilman City, Mo., and his maternal grandparents, James and Addeline Callison of Jamesport, Mo. He is survived by his mother, Marjorie, brother, John and wife Bobbi, and nephews, Michael and Mark Lierly. In addition, he is survived by cousins, James Edwards (Janie), Diana Edwards Murnaghan, Elaine Lierly Jones (Pat), Glenn Lierly, John Ward (Mary), Connie Hoskins (Keith) and a multitude of second and third cousins. James was a devoted son, brother, and uncle. He was a graduate of Shawnee Mission West HS in 1969 and Kansas University in Lawrence in 1973. He worked for many years in the social work services for the Missouri Department of Human Services where he retired in December 2009. He was an active member of Lenexa United Methodist Church where he attended services regularly. He was also a life long avid fan of the KU Jayhawks. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at Lenexa United Methodist Church, 9138 Caenen Lake Rd., Lenexa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Church.
